Free thinking
School of Thinking is the largest continuous program in the world for teaching thinking skills and metacognition. What is metacognition?
It's a big word but it has a very clever meaning.
Metacognition is simply "thinking about thinking". Metacogition is becoming aware of your own thinking and exploring ways to become a much better thinker. In our Western culture, the famous Greek thinkers--Plato, Socrates and Aristotle--were the first to write about metacognition.
In the Chinese culture Confucious wrote about metacognition.
Thinkers and writers in other cultures have also written about the hows and whys of thinking--metacognition.
The training strategy of the School of Thinking is an original Australian design.
It has been developed and evolved by Dr. Michael Hewitt-Gleeson over the past 35 years. (Dr Michael Hewitt-Gleeson, Principal, School of Thinking, Speaker; Writer; Publisher; www.newsellcoaching.com http://www.schoolofthinking.org)
It is based on the–“The Scheyville Method”–the unique training method used by the Australian Army to prepare leaders for Vietnam service in the 60s and 70s.
The SOT Motto in Latin is: NEMO NASCITUR SAPIENS ARTIFEX.
In English it is: ‘No-one is ever born a skilled thinker!’
